In this position you will perform as part of the Laboratory team, which collects, performs and results chemical tests on body fluids and specimens from patients to provide accurate information to clinicians for diagnosis and prevention of diseases.

Performs a variety of technical procedures that result in the creation of microscopic slide preparations. These technical procedures may include: accessioning specimens; specimen processing and microtomy techniques; paraffin, frozen, and plastic. Technical staining procedures include: routine Hematoxylin and Eosin, special stains, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemical staining, and in situ hybridization. Participates in on-call rotations, including weekends as needed. Assists with training of students and new employees.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares Tissue Specimens for Processing
  • Special and Immunohistochemistry Staining
  • Daily rids microtome of paraffin by cleaning exterior with an antiseptic solution.
  • Assist in cutting room as needed.
  • Takes initiative to update knowledge of and skills in new procedures, equipment, methods, tools, techniques, and so forth.
  • Complies with laboratory safety and infection control policies to ensure a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • High school deploma and completion of two years of clinical laboratory experience in histopathology
  • ASCP certification (HT) required.
  • One to two years experience as Histotechnician preferred.
  • Extreme manual dexterity required. Excellent attention to detail, hand-eye coordination, technical, communication and organization skills required.
