There are different prenatal tests you can get in your first, second, and third trimester. Some check your health, and others get information about your baby.
First trimester screening tests.
This blood test allows you to measure the size of the clear space in the tissue at the back of the baby's neck (opaque transparency) and to check the embryo for Down Syndrome.
Second trimester screening tests.
This test measures levels of four substances in your blood. Results indicate your risk of carrying a baby who has certain chromosomal conditions, such as Down syndrome.
Prenatal cell-free DNA screening.
This blood test examines fetal DNA in the maternal bloodstream to screen for the increased chance for specific chromosome problems, such as Down syndrome.
Rh incompatibility diagnostic tests
A blood test to determine your Rh status. Rh incompatibility is a condition that occurs during pregnancy if a woman has Rh-negative blood and her baby has Rh-positive blood.
